The First Seminar Of The Casualty Actuarial Society’s China branch Is Held In Beijing

  On June 12, 2015, the first seminar of the Casualty Actuarial Society’s China branch was held in Beijing, sponsored by the Asia branch of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and the China Property & Casualty Reinsurance Co., Ltd (CPCR). This seminar covered a number of areas such as the restructuring of auto insurance pricing and catastrophe insurance.

  Mr. Ding Peng, Director of CIRC’s Casualty Actuarial Department, attended the seminar and analyzed the latest methods aimed at improving auto insurance pricing as well as its future development; Mr. Jeff Courchene, Vice President of CAS, set forth the internationalization strategy and the development blueprint of CAS; Dr. Zhang Li, Deputy General Manager of CPCR’s Business Innovation Department, presented a detailed interpretation of the future of catastrophe insurance combined with the latest market situation and government policy; Mr. Zhang Lang, Assistant General Manager of PICC’s Actuarial Department, and Mr. Hu Yongtao, Deputy General Manager of Swiss Re Beijing Branch’s Auto and Liability Insurance Department, introduced the actuarial studies resulting from price restructuring and the influence of the pilotless automobile on the insurance industry.

  Mr. Chen Sen, Deputy General Manager, CFO and Chief Actuary of China Re P&C, had a thorough discussion on non-traditional career development paths for actuaries with Dr. Zhang Li, Deputy General Manager of Innovative Business Department,China Re P&C, Mr. Zhu Rendong, Deputy General Manager and Chief Actuary of Sunshine P&C Insurance Co., Ltd.,, and Mr. Xu Dehong, Deputy General Manager of Liberty.

  This seminar was a first-time opportunity for exchange and dialogue among CAS members in China. It attracted nearly 90 members, scholars, and actuaries, promoted communication and cooperation among members in Asia, and built a communication bridge between the CAS and the insurance industry. The seminar played a tremendous constructive role in the development of the non-life actuarial industry in the Asian region.
